The CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test is an important way for construction workers to demonstrate that they can work safely on the job. It's also a way for them to know that their co- workers can work safely on the site and not put them at risk of injury. For employers, having workers who've passed the CITB HS&E test is assurance that their workforce are and can continue to be safe at work.
There are three types of HS&E test, please get in touch if you need any guidance on which test you need, call 01429 597990 or contact us.
Structure of the Test
Candidates have 45 minutes to answer the 50 questions. The test now includes new question styles. Behavioural case studies are also used in the test to check a candidate's understanding of health, safety and environmental issues, and how to behave safely on-site.
CITB is continually reviewing the test to ensure that it continues to help construction workers and employers get the right knowledge, skills and training to be able to work safely in the industry.

CSCS Cards
CSCS cards provide evidence that those working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do on site. The card plays its part in improving standards and safety on UK construction sites by ensuring the workforce are appropriately qualified.
As it is not a legal requirement, it is entirely up to the employer or contractor whether workers are required to hold a card before they are allowed on site. However, in the UK, most contractors and major house builders require construction workers on their sites to hold a valid card.
At Evolution Training and Consultancy Ltd we can help with all requirements to gain your CSCS Card.
A green Labourers card is often the quickest and most straight forward way to gain a CSCS card. It is designed for a worker who is employed to carry out various manual labour jobs on construction sites. It allows workers to perform tasks on sites at entry-level positions and is valid for 5 years. Our 1 Day health & Safety in construction course is recognised by CITB for those wishing to apply for a Green Labourers card.
You can sit your test at our dedicated CITB Approved Health Safety and Environment Testing centre at our site in Hartlepool. Then, on successful completion of both (or if you send us the evidence we require), our team can collate the information required and submit the card application on your behalf.

CPCS Renewal Test
To renew your CPCS Blue Competent Operator card, you must take and pass the CPCS Renewal Test which ensures you have kept your knowledge of each plant category, or group of categories, held on your card up-to-date.
You need to take the Renewal Test before your existing CPCS Blue Competent Operator card expires and you need to pass each category test before the category can be renewed.
The tests are designed to cover the essential knowledge that is expected of experienced plant operators which have been developed with industry to meet the needs of construction plant and trades. Each test is 15 minutes and you will be required to take a renewal test for each group of categories that you hold on your card.
If you have added a new category to your CPCS Blue Competent Operator card within two years of your card expiring, you don’t need to take the renewal test for that category when you renew your card. You can take up to five CPCS Renewal Tests in a single slot. Click here for the full list of the categories covered.
As an accredited Pearson Vue Testing centre, Evolution Training and Consultancy Ltd can offer CPCS Retests at our Head office in Teesside, at a time that is convenient to you.
