The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS)

The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) provides skills cards for the plant sector of the Construction Industry. It was launched in 2003 and since then over 300,000 cards have been issued across 64 categories of plant and related occupations.

CPCS cards are issued on successful completion of competence programmes that include both theory and practical tests. This helps card holders to demonstrate the skills and health and safety awareness needed to operate plant machinery on site. On many sites, a CPCS card is a mandatory requirement to operate plant.

There are many types of CPCS cards; most CPCS courses will award a Red card which denotes the holder is a Trained Operator in whichever categories they have passed CPCS tests. The operator can then work towards obtaining a Blue card to become a Competent Operator but must have a Red card in the relevant categories first.

CPCS Blue cards last for 5 years. To renew you must sit a CPCS Renewal Test which is available at our Pearson Vue Testing centre in Hartlepool. Every employer can be sure that CPCS card holder has been professionally trained and will carry out all tasks given in a safe and appropriate manner.

Our training centre is professionally set up to deliver courses on the most popular plant machinery used on sites throughout the UK, please get in touch if you need any guidance on which test you need, call 01429 597990 or contact us.
